I am sort of split two ways on the passing of the new bill. Senate Bill 1070 has uprised some racial tension between the U.S. government and hispanic Americans. The law requires officers,"when praticable", to detain anyone reasonably suspected of being an illegal. It also makes it a misdameanor to be caught without your papers. I can see why there is an uproar about racial profiling. I don't think racial profiling is right, but it is something thats unavoidable. Profiling in general is a big problem in our society. You dont have to be a person of color to be profiled. I know for a fact that a person of any race can be profiled. I have been pulled over and or stopped by cops just for looking different. People are going to be profiled no matter what, but in this case it is hispanics under the scope because of the situation with bill.
Besides the immigration issue, the bill is believed to help stop trafficking of drugs, weapons, and people in and out of America. The people of America as well as Mexico need to be protected.
This law can help protect citizens on both sides of the border.Weapons are smuggled into Mexico daily and sold to violent drug cartels. the Mexican government supports the bill hoping it will stop these cartels. On our own turf people are taken from America and sold as slaves for labor or sex. Pheonix, Arizona is the kidnapping capitol of America. I'm not saying Mexicans are responsible for all the missing people, but the Arizona-Mexican border may be a key access point to flee America for slave traders. I would definently have to think this one over before I would cast a vote.

This is being performed by stopping and asking for Id's and legal documentation from the people that look suspicious of being migrants. S.B 1070 took place because of the governor of the state of Arizona. They are taking action and are deporting many immigrants within the stare of Arizona back to their countries no matter if they had any relations in the Unites States. Yet, this law is unconstitutional and is violating the human rights of the people. The state is now against the federal government by putting pressure on the president in order to enforce the immigration laws because the federal government has been putting it off to the side. Not only is the state of Arizona trying to get enough voters to pass this law in order to establish this law in their state but other states as well are trying to establish a similar law for their state.
The S.B 1070 is being un-just to the people whom are being harassed with this process that are U.S citizens. Illegal immigrants shouldn't be deported back to their countries for the fact that they get the job done. Most of the jobs being performed in order to supply food on our tables are done by the illegal immigrants. Their the ones doing all the dirty jobs in which most american citizens wouldn't do or wouldn't be able to do. Who will be doing all the farm working, fast food restuarants, and house keeping jobs if it isn't the immigrants? The illegal immigrants have taken part in this nation to make this nation successful. In my opinion I think that these migrants deserve a reform system in their favor of all their hard work thats taken place. Its not fair that only latinos are being detaind and deported to their countries, if their not the only immigrants in our nation. Yet they are the only ones being deportes, its not fair. There's injustice within the nation.

The controversial SB 1070 has been debated ever since it was introduced in Arizona. Praise and criticism surrounds this bill; politicians, citizens, and immigrants all seem to have various views
on this topic. I am one to bump heads with different individuals about the bill. I am against SB 1070 because I believe it is unjust and unfair to any "potential" immigrant. I say "potential" due to the fact that it is improbable to determine who is an illegal immigrant or a citizen of the United States. Racial profiling will definitely ensue; The law puts communities of color in the crosshairs by requiring state and local government workers to determine if a person is illegally in the United States based on a “reasonable suspicion.” Arizona’s law enforcements will have to act upon “reasonable suspicion,” but most likely it will be based on the appearance of the individual; “SB 1070 would dramatically change every Arizonan's daily experience, especially anyone whose appearance, name, language or accent fits the stereotype of the undocumented.” I realize that this law is only in Arizona and does not concern me due to the fact that I reside in
California and an American citizen. However, the actions of the bill goes against what the United States is all about; many immigrants migrant to the US to seek a better life, not to cause havoc. Now there are excellent points to why SB 1070 should become effective, but I believe that this bill contradicts and goes against the American life. Besides, our ancestors were immigrants, seeking better opportunities.
SB 1070 is “…intended to work together to discourage and deter “the unlawful entry and presence of illegal aliens and economic activity by illegal aliens in the United States.” Entry into the United States is illegal without the consent of the US government. To counter the waves of illegal immigrants, SB 1070 was intended to “establish crimes involving trespassing by illegal aliens, stopping to hire or soliciting work under specified circumstances, and transporting, harboring or concealing unlawful aliens, and their respective penalties.” The protection of American and Arizonian citizens is what comes first; the state of Arizona based the bill on this belief. This will definitely disrupt the inflow of illegal weapons, narcotics, and immigrants. The United States has enough problems to deal with; SB 1070 will try to resolve a serious matter that has plagued society for years.

There is a new law in Arizona that gives the police officers the right to pull over a suspicious driver and ask them for their papers, and if they do not have any then they will be deported. There are many people who strongly disagree with this bill and people who are for this bill, however, I say that this bill is not constitutional and I am against this bill. I think this bill is very unconstitutional and violates our 4th amendment. But there is a way that this bill could be avoided, if all Latinos went out and voted it will have a chance that it will be thrown away. Like in 1994, in California proposition 187(anti-illegal immigrants) was passed and there were more citizens, so maybe the same could happen in Arizona. If more people vote, then more people can stay.
With the new law passed in Arizona there is now an opportunity to give some more order with the border. The new law will open up more jobs and benefit the unemployed. With this bill it could help the country control the population and help with some benefits like the medical care. This bill is also starting to make other states think and they are also trying to make illegal immigrants. With this happening we can crack down on all illegal immigrants. This is happening in Pennsylvania and in Texas. With more states getting involved we can get more immigrants to go back to their country and have more jobs for the unemployed.

Senate Bill 1070 has caused great amounts of interest on the media but also to us in particular, or individuals as you may, and many are against it and as well for it. But i for one am against SB1070 because i believe that it is indeed racial criticism (even though many believe it is not).This bill should prevent from immigrants crossing the border to the United States, or in this case to Arizona. The provisions in SB 1070 include requiring people to show proof of citizenship upon "reasonable suspicion" that they are in the country illegally and that are touching off a firestorm of criticism and demonstrations across the country.
Proponents say the law is needed to help the state fight battles that the federal government has ignored. Critics say the law will institutionalize stereotypes, ensare innocent, legal citizens, and place a burden on already strained local police resources. "please explain what criteria will be used to determine if someone is an illegal immigrant," Brewer admitted that she "[does] not know what an illegal immigrant looks like."While it's all well and good for the governor of Arizona to declare that racial profiling is "illegal" and "will not be tolerated,"we all know that this bill pretty much relies and is based on racial profiling to target people of color and immigrant communities in Arizona. Even our President Obama had not so very good words for Arizona’s new immigration law, calling it "misguided." He claimed that SB1070 threatens, "to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe." He then proceeded put the Justice Department in charge of determining whether or not the law is legal.
Although i am against Senate Bill 1070, there are also some good things on this. Such as if there were less immigrants, there will most likely be many open jobs for the unemployed. The United States has several thousands of people that are unemployed. Many also believe that with no immigrants, that Arizona's community will be much more secure and protected not just for everyone there but mostly for the youn ones. There will also be a possibilty that our debt rate may not be increasing as fast as it does and United State citizens can have medical help/insurance as in lower cost for their health and medical causes. One in particular that is very common is drug smuggling, weapons or items and any other dangerous substances that cross the border. That it will stop forsure, maybe not, but i know there can be a muc way lower percentage of it crossing to the United States. If many immigrants get sent back where they belong and everything is going good and Arizona's economic issues get better, i would not be surprised if many other states sign this bill as well.

I believe there are negative and positive aspects to SB 1070. Therefore leaving me undecided about the whole situation. Having this law go into effect might bring racial profiling, and cause people to be angry that they would be seen as if they were some sort of suspected criminal. Having many businesses relying on illegal immigrant labor or customers, shrinking the immigrant population will interfere with the businesses in general which was stated in “Will SB 1070 help or hurt economy”. “ The businesses could grow more slowly, and consumers could face higher prices for some goods“ (Hanson, 2010).Seems that having this law pass it would affect the economy greatly, since we depend on illegal immigrant workers greatly. Having the spending of public and private schools be in loss. . “Latinos...are a highly flexible, highly exploitable work force, a buffer to economic downturns,” he says. “Many of the industries here – agriculture, service industries, low-end manufacturing, construction – are massively dependent on undocumented workers (Haq, 2010). We rely on immigrants to do certain jobs such as farming, and they help us produce any products. Sending them back can also mean we are separating families and friends.
There are also reasonable arguments in which support the SB 1070. Having many illegal immigrants can leave us over populated. Which would cause difficulties to find jobs, since they would take the jobs of many. There could be the fear of them smuggling in drugs into the U.S, or bringing in new infection scares. And for the argument over whether they will pursue racial profiling they set a fair solution. "If the law, for whatever reason, happened to go into effect," the attorney general said, then "six months from now, a year from now, we might ... look at the impact the law has had and ... see whether or not there has been that racial profiling impact (Sheridan, 2010). And if so they set racial profiling they can do something to solve that problem. People also fear the thought of having enemies cross over easily, because of the poorly secured borders. “So many people are willing to give a portion of their money to defend Arizona, against the dangers of illegal immigration (Gibson, 2010). Which brings them to gather and give some of their money, going to the process of building a better and reliable border. "We feel very, very confident that we stand on good ground," she said last week. Which also leaving so to give this law a chance and hope that it comes out for the best. Gov. Jan Brewer saying, "We will push forward, and believe from our heart that it is constitutional and is the right thing to do."

Arizona’s new immigration law has spurred controversy due to its “tough” implications. The bill itself allows any officer to ask for citizenship verification if he or she has “reasonable suspicion” of a person already being detained. Not only is the person detained and questioned, but the law also makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally. I believe the law will create racial profiling, I also think that it will increase crime rates in Arizona in particular because with officials and attorneys “cracking” down on the illegal immigrants, they would not focus as much on the other more serious crimes such as rape and murder. According to a USA today report, many illegal immigrants have already fled the state even before the law became official. This is mostly due to the bad economy of Arizona; even schools have noticed a major drop in attendance. I also believe that Arizona’s economy will decline greatly because illegal immigrants account for $29 million of its budget (as stated by Stephen Colbert in “Comedy Central”). By kicking them out of the country, they let go of approximately 12% of their work force.
In the attempt of protecting their borders, I believe Arizona is doing its part, what I don’t agree with is the process by which they choose to carry out such task. It’s understandable that Arizona is applying this new law due to the issues some illegal immigrants impose; such issues include the trafficking of illegal drugs to the United States. But I believe I speak for many when I say most Mexican (and other nationalities) immigrants come to this country in search of a better life, more opportunities than the ones given to them in their native country and most of all “the American dream”. If we negate these opportunities to people then are we truly “the land of the free”? And besides, wasn’t our country built on immigrants? Those immigrants who thrived and built this nation to what it now stands to be. All in all, I am not for Arizona’s new immigration law because it implies racial profiling, I also believe that it would affect Arizona’s economy in a negative because it is undeniable that illegal immigrants are imperative to the work force of Arizona.

Considering what we’ve talked about in class. The Arizona SB 1070 has brought about a lot of problems around the world. There have many boycotts to show Arizona what mistake they’ve made. To think that a big population of Arizona is immigrants, it’s hard to see how they want to get rid of them. There’s a big percentage of tourism in Arizona and this bill could have some negative effects with it. It hard to believe how Arizona wants to get rid off from where they get most of their profits from. The immigrant’s percentage in Arizona makes up a big piece of their population and economical output.
Arizona is already predicting that their hotel businesses will suffer the most from this bill. Oklahoma passed a similar bill in 2007. They learned out at the end that they were losing economically from that bill. They lost about 18.5 million from the losses of the effects of the bill they passed. They saw the mistake they made and recalled the bill. I have a feeling that Arizona is going to end up regretting too. The boycott is the first step. Pretty soon they will see the same results from the bill passed by Arizona. I see the same results from Oklahoma happen to Arizona.

For or against SB 1070?
I am against senate bill 1070 because the government of Arizona doesn’t really know what its doing. According to the article “Arizona passes SB1070 Immigration bill to curb illegal immigrants” by Yuliva Talmazan the government of Arizona issued the bill because a local rancher named Robert Krentz. It is alleged Krentz, 58, was killed after a confrontation with illegal immigrants in a potential case of drug cartel scout, theft or retaliation. This means that the government should be looking for the cartels and passing bills that can actually help prosecute this people who are here in the United States just making harm. Illegal immigration has no role to play here so I don’t see why the state of Arizona would do something like that to families who are just looking for a better life. I’m also against it because if all illegal immigrants are deported then Arizona will loose much of its income. According to the article “economic impact of SB1070” by Lupita Murillo says that One mall official told them that Ross, and JC Penney attribute 60% of their business to Mexico. That means that at the end these stores will probably close because of fewer sales.
I think senate bill 1070 is a good idea because most illegal immigrants in the United States are gang affiliated. This can cause much harm to those who are here trying to get a better life legally. Senate bill 1070 will secure the state of Arizona more making sure that no illegal alien or suspicious person can come through Nogales, AZ with out a valid U.S citizenship (green card). Through this the state of Arizona will figure out new ways to maintain its economy up and so that legal people can have a job. And maybe they will help patrol the Mexican border and Canadian border so that the states can have a better life. A batter life would come because less immigrants would equal less violence. As well as less spending which might help boost our hole economy.

My standpoint on SB 1070 is simply I don’t stand for it. It’s just like the white people to blame all their problems on the Hispanics. SB 1070 was supposedly created to help get people their jobs back from illegal immigrants, when they clearly have the Mexicans in mind. You don’t see cops in Arizona pulling over a black person or a white guy in suspicion of them being here illegal. The people of Arizona are clearly prejudiced against Hispanics and will stop at nothing to try to get them out of America. I don’t even see what the problem is; Hispanics are doing the jobs that they don’t want to do. Why? Because they are oh so lazy. When do you ever see a white person gardening someone else’s yard to make some money? Almost never. And yet they moan and complain that Hispanics are taking the jobs when all they’re doing is trying to make some money themselves to support their family back at home. Speaking of prejudiced states Arizona and Texas whose senators are John McCain and John Cornyn voted against Supreme Court justice Sonia Soto mayor, who happens to be Latina. Everyone else voted for her. Except them and a few other states. Why? Because they are a very prejudiced state who do not support the Latino populous. But that’s ok, because I have a feeling they won’t be around next year, not McCain, not Cornyn, and not Jan Governor of Arizona. Little that they know that the population is greatly influenced by Latinos; they won’t have a prayer of being elected next year. I really cannot represent a point of view argument for the opposing side; if I had to I would say that the only benefit is making the US census more accurate due to now accurate numbers of people living in homes. Maybe the Census should take place in some of the northern states that border Canada so terrorists cannot come thorough our borders anymore and can be at least suspected by someone before it’s too late.

SB 1070 has become one of the Medias hot topics this year. Many people are for and others against it based on many different factors. Personally, I believe that this law is unconstitutional and implies racial profiling. Yeah, this bill allows police officers to pull over a driver for an actual reason and then ask for their documents but, are all the officers doing so with that exception? To me it seems that Hispanics are the one ethnic group that is being triggered the most. I don’t see why Arizona doesn’t put immigrants from other countries in mind as much as them. If they want to get rid of them they can just enforce their borders if they are scared of people snuggling weapons and other threats. Also, why would Arizona want to get rid of immigrants if that’s were a lot of their profits and gains have come from?
The only reason I see it would be okay to pass this law is because of how tax payers would be able to save way more money for education if illegal immigrants left with their children. This would hurt those businesses that rely on illegal-immigrant labor or customers though. In 2008, they made a study that without Illegal immigrants our economy would get reduced by $245 billon and lose 2.8 million jobs. In this case, it’s kind of a win-lose situation. You have to lose some to win some. Even after this discussion, I am not sure if it should be passed or not; there is some benefits as well as negative aspects to it.

We find that this SB 1070 has caused a number of factors that would inevitably negate it’s expected assistance in securing the borders as well as preventing many illegal immigrants from generating any tension between them and the United States. Overall though, I am completely against this bill. The bill scarcely provides any real evidence that the borders will be more secure, that it will be more prone to preventing illegal immigrants to enter Arizona, or any state in the United States. Though what I find to be my main claim to saying “no” on this bill, is that the bill, which according to Governor of Arizona Jan Brewer will not happen, is the act of racial profiling. A policemen nor a regular person has the right to say who is illegal and who is not, an illegal immigrant does not have a face, though the bill allows this to occur. From a New York times report “Opponents have called it an open invitation for harassment and discrimination against Hispanics regardless of their citizenship status.” In relation to this bill, President Obama intends to send 1,200 troops to the border, though Mexican Drug Trafficking Analyst, Jorge Chabat, believes that this won’t hurt the US-Mexico relations, but won’t stop the flow of drugs. And isn’t that a main priority of the government, to halt the flow of drugs from Mexico into the United States? We see that this bill can cause many pros and cons to affect the general status of Arizona, especially their economy. Through various articles, the media, as well as the people living in Arizona believe that the overall economy could drastically shift but not in their favor. According to an Arizona Tourism report, hotel managers are becoming frightened of SB1070's outcome, personally being from parents who immigrated to this country and distinctly appear as immigrants, I would not want to visit a place where unjust discrimination and biased judgements are likely to occur, these feelings are probably throughout the nation. I developed a question of “How will this affect the nations of the world?” Arizona’s tourism rates would decrease.
I am one to always see two sides to many things, especially law. SB 1070 has two sides to it. It does contain numerous negative qualities but does contain qualities that would help Arizona in many areas. Such as, crime. Crime reduction is one of the bills main aspects to benefit Arizona in the long run. True, reducing the number of immigrants in the country, specifically Arizona, would aide in dwindling the crime rate in Arizona, including the other states bordering Mexico. The crime rates in Arizona are high in areas such as; vehicle theft, larceny theft, and property violations, the rate of crime is generally low. Though sources say that the bill will provoke the crime rate to increase. The bill in a way has sparked many of those to register to vote, and to become registered Democrats, and which is considering the idea that Arizona might switch from a red to a blue state very soon. Democrats after all are more for those on the lesser side of life, the laborers, middle class, and care for those in unfortunate situations.

The Arizona Senate Bill 1070 law has been in most of people’s conversations. “The bill, SB 1070, would make it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally”, as Arizona Daily Star explains. This bill to my opinion is going to cause an impact on Arizona. As FAIRUS.org states, “Illegal aliens make up 10% of the workforce in Arizona. The illegal alien population makes up half of the state's total foreign-born population (945,226), and 8% of the state's total population.” In other words, Arizona’s work production will decease and its economy will suffer if the bill is enforced. Miller Llana, Sara describes, “nearly $4.5 billion worth of products were exported from the state to Mexico, which is Arizona’s No. 1 trading partner. If boycotts from Mexico become widespread, it could hurt the state economy.”
However, we should consider that the bill was formed to prevent more problems with the Mexican-American border, problems such as Drug dealing, and human contraband. FAIRUS.org clarifies, “The Border Patrol has found that criminal gangs, such as MS-13, are drawn to Arizona because of the predominance of drug trafficking and human smuggling there.” The passing of the bill will defeat criminal gangs like MS-13. Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) is an extremely dangerous gang that has crews in Alaska, Nevada, Oregon, Illinois, Florida, Michigan, New York, Georgia, Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Texas, Utah, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mexico, Canada and several South American countries. The Members are for ages 11 to 40 years old. Mexican and U.S. officials acknowledged that MS-13 were heavily involved with drug smuggling and human trafficking activities. Also as FAIRUS.org writes, “In 2008, there were 368 kidnapping and 337 home invasions in Arizona, a 61% increase just since 2005. The city of Phoenix formed a police taskforce in 2009 to combat the rising levels of violence, and still recorded over 300 kidnapping that year.” Crime in Arizona may be reduced with this bill. As you can see both arguments are stated and specific evidence has been presented.

I am against the violation of our natural rights as the SB 1070 will violate as soon as it takes affect. This bill will not only ask for documentation but also discriminate on our appearance. Our country is made up of immigrants as our ancestors immigrated to this country for a better life. We do not have the right to discriminate on others due to the fact we come from similar roots. The Arizona border has not shown as much danger as the governor complains about. The Canadian border has shown to be more dangerous. All the terrorists who came to the U.S. came through the unsecured border of Canada. If the bill were to take affect, the economy of Arizona would have a dramatic change. As the state of Arizona has, “over 35,000 businesses who are Latino owned.” They hold a great number of employees that have brought an income of $4.3 billion in 2002. With out the support of other Latinos in Arizona business success will decrease dramatically. (American Immigration… 2010)
The unheard complains regarding the Arizona’s border with Mexico caused the governor Jan Brewer to create this bill. She feared the security of her citizens with the easy ability for cartels to come into her state. Since her complains were not responded to, she was left with no other choice then to take action on her own. As she states, “…this is not an option for Arizona to keep waiting for a response.” (Ed Brock, 2010) She did eventually receive support from president Obama due to SB 1070; he would support her with more guards in the border. Obama was not able to talk her out of the SB 1070.

Although it is true that AZ SB 1070 has the support from the majority of the country, this does not trump the rights to the minority in this law. Many people who are in favor in the law and who believe in its constitutionality believe that Arizona is not violating A.1 S.8 of the Constitution, but instead say that it is " pitching in a hand " in stopping illegal immigration (Navarrette, 2010). However, this argument is highly flawed because if states begin violating the supremacy clause then the laws created are obviously unconstitutional. Furthermore, although the majority of Americans support this law, it violates the rights of others, and as i learned in my government class "majority rules, minority rights" meaning that the majority of the country cannot receive what they want, if it violates the rights of the minority, who are the watchdogs making sure that they are not silenced (Navarrette, 2010). The biggest issue with the law has to be this because, the law will bring up much controversy and you truly only hear the minority calling for this law to be reppealed, as if the minority was the majority. Therefore the best way for these two seperate views to find common ground will be through compromise, which is the best way for all to be happy.
The fact that this law steps all over the rights of the minority is not the only reason why the law is wrong. The most obvious reason for why the law is unconstitutional is the fact that it basically promotes racial profiling. Although it directly states that aprehending officers should not racially profile people when asking them for their papers, the only true way you can ask specific people is if they do not look like white americans, and this is racial profiling (Navarrette, 2010). This is racial profiling because if an american citizen who was either born of lation parents or who became citizens through the lengthy process, could be asked for papers and this could enrage some people. Furthermore, this law hurts itself because not only are businesses boycotting Arizona goods, but some people are even promoting the idea that you should not travel to Arizona (Carcamo, 2010). Therefore, not only is the law hurting Americas minorities, but it also hurts itself because these boycotts will eventually leave the states economy to go worse and worse.

Acknowledging what we talked about in class, Arizona SB 1070 has brought up plenty of conflicts. Many people are considering to send 12 million illegal immigrants home and if the federal government won't act on this the states will. They haven't thought about how much it may cost us to send all of the immigrants back home. Money is a huge factor and Arizona has paid $2.7 billion in 2009 to help the immigrants out. Another problem id that the new law is unconstitutional and immoral; it requires racial profiling. There are certain times where reasonable suspicion can be done without racial characteristics.
Boycotts from Mexico are occurring and this Arizona immigration law is ruining some businesses. Stores have been closing early because the main people keeping them open was the Mexicans. Because of these boycotts they will be loosing $90 million during the next 5 years in the hotel and convention center business. With all of problems taken into thought i am against the Arizona SB 1070. Other point of views we need to look at are that the illegal immigrants are the ones who take the low paying jobs trying to support their families, also i think it's impossible to send 12 million immigrants home. They need to be focusing on making their borders stronger first before trying to enforce this law.

If I were for the SB 1070, my main reason for supporting it is that it follows the laws given by the government that says that people who want to migrate in the U.S needs to follow some legal actions before being able to come in. I put this in as my main reason because people do come in illegally and that is just not fair for all the people who are also trying to get in the U.S. For example some people try so hard to earn money to spend for the papers to get in the U.S yet the people who come in illegally don't have to work for anything. Another reason that the SB 1070 should be passed is that the crime rate in some counties are mostly from illegal immigrants. An example that proves that the some of the crimes are from illegal immigrants is as follow: 47% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens, 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens, Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here Illegally. These examples prove that some of the things that the illegal immigrants brought are bad things. Basically to sum it all up the reasoning that people want to impose this law is that they want to have a better community, in my opinion.
I am definitely against the SB 1070, because it goes against the laws that the government was put up for. To be exact the law is discriminatory and it provides racial profiling. For example in a video i saw it explains that even the officers think that the law can show some racial profiling. Also another reason that this law is inaccurate is that its way of arresting of illegal immigrants is based on suspicion. As the reporter said "...the officers are given reasons of suspicion on who to arrest." In my opinion tagging someone because of suspicion is wrong.

My argument against the bill is that it can only work with the use of social profiling. This makes the law illegal and discriminative. The law makes officers arrest illegal immigrants by “reasonable suspicion” but really who will the officer pull over, a white or a brown colored man. This is the reality of the bill because each officer needs to make his mark on the arrest to earn his/her money. This bill is also making businesses, states, and even a country stop trade with the state of Arizona, which will only cause the state and country to lose money. In a study in 2008 there is an estimated $245 billion without illegal immigrants and lose 2.8 million jobs. This will only worsen the economy.
My argument for the bill is that it can create some revenue for the state. By arresting the illegal immigrants they will make them pay no less than $1,000 and no more than $5,000 for a civil penalty. It will also be a next step to secure our borders because once this law goes to affect many more will be presented and may have the same effect as senate bill 1070.

The controversial anti-illegal immigration law has caught the attention of many states in the U.S and Mexico. I am against the Senate Bill 1070 that was signed by the Gov. of Arizona, Jan Brewer. I am not for it because I believe that there hasn’t been enough effort in finding different ways to stop immigration. Yes I understand that they are desperate for this law but we have to face that facts that this law is unconstitutional and violates the rights given to the people (in the Fourth Amendment). The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Arizona because they say that the new law violates the rule of “preemption”. Meaning that the state law is trying to take the precedence of the federal law.
I am aware of the guidelines that the Arizona police was given to enforce the SB 1070 so they can avoid racial profiling. My question is how exactly are they going to determine who is an illegal immigrant without actually having to discriminate? The law says the police must have a “reasonable suspicion” but if you think about it what may be reasonable for one person may not be reasonable for the other, this is when contradiction is brought up. I am aware that the protection and security of the citizens living in Arizona is important but we also must comprehend that this law is wrong and very discriminatory. We must build walls if they want protection, making a law that puts down a certain race will come back to bite you in the rear end. For example, Arizona is very dependent on Mexico when it comes to trading produce but with Mexico boycotting Arizona no trading will be done and thus Arizona will lose money and make their economy hurt. Overall Arizona will lose $4.5 billion worth of products that is shipped to Mexico. Once this law takes its effect on July 29 we will see that Arizona really needs the immigrants.

Arizona's Senate Bill 1070 which allows police officials to question anyone if they have 'reasonable suspicion' that a person is an illegal immigrant has become very controversial. As the federal government has failed to regulate immigration in the nation, states, in this case Arizona, have decided to take action. Supporters of the bill believe that illegal immigration is "associated with an increase in violent crime and flood of drugs in the state." (Stopa, 2010) This is having a negative economic impact in the state of Arizona and on the population. Governor Jan Brewer stated that this law will cause a decrease in Arizona's crime rates.
However, this issue is dividing the country. Personally I am against Senate Bill 1070. This bill, if enforced as a law, will "foster an environment of fear and paranoia among [immigrants] whether they are in the country legally or not." (Grinberg, 2010) The only thing this bill is doing is tearing families apart. This fear "will increase public health issues and make them worse for women and children who might be too scared of being deported to go to the hospital or to police if something happens to them." (Grinberg, 2010) This will make the people fear and distrust the government that they had once viewed as a government that protected their rights.

I, personally, am against the Arizona SB 1070 bill. This bill is making most people choose a side on its execution, intentions, and effects.
Many people that support SB 1070 say that the illegal immigrants here are taking jobs that Americans want and deserve. Others say that they bring in an unskilled work force, "along with all of their inherent problems". The main argument is that the illegal immigrants are ,in general, negatively effecting the economy. Many people are losing houses, jobs, possessions, and more, and the illegals are taking opportunities from these unfortunate Americans. All are paying for the illegal's stay in the U.S. through their tax dollars. According to KGTV San Diego, each illegal could cost taxpayers up to $100,000.
However, the immigration bill just seems unconstitutional. Many say that the bill encourages racial profiling. And others say that the law is just as bad as the Jim Crow laws during the African-American segregation years. But, Arizona has no right trying to enforce this law. The subject and handling of immigration (both legal and illegal) is "a matter of foreign affairs" (Wall Street Journal). The law gives police officers the authority to ask anyone if they are in the country illegally. However, this contradicts the fourth and fifth amendments to the Constitution, which, according to the U.S. government, is the "Supreme Law of the Land".
In conclusion, the bill has some good intentions, such as the deportation of illegals and trying to help the economy. However, the way the bill intends to do that is borderline illegal.

The Arizona SB 1070 is in my opinion a highly racial law. Though many may argue that this law is intended for all illegal immigrants, we can all agree that it will mainly have an effect upon Hispanic groups. The question about racial profiling has been brought up quite often with this law. As stated in an article, “police..can have no “reasonable suspicion” that a person is an illegal immigrant without relying on racial cues”(Stopa 2010). Passing this new law does not only affect the Hispanic population living in Arizona but also the whole Arizona itself. At this given point, the United States is suffering from an economic boom. Yet alone, Arizona is not at it’s best either. This new law will ultimately affect the economy in Arizona and have a negative impinge on it. Already, we are seeing how the tourism officials are worried about the impact this law will have upon them(Yu 2010).
The SB 1070 is mostly supported because it is said to be a promising way of decreasing crime rates in Arizona. Though this is a valid reason to approve of this law, there are too many other valid reasons against it. 30% of Arizona’s population is Hispanic. This means that Arizona’s population will definitely be seeing a difference in their population because of the number of people who already began to move out of there. But what happens to all those who leave that state because of this new law? Where are they going? Since the surrounding states are not implying this law into their state, then what’s happening is that they begin to come to these states increasing the already high population those states have. It is estimated that “there are several hundred thousand undocumented alien residing in Arizona”(Reagor 2010). Not only will this be affecting the surrounding states economically but it will also influence some of these to also pass related laws.

SB 1070 has created controversies whether it would be a good or bad law overall. Both sides to the bill have strong supporters that make me indecisive on whether im for or against it. This bill would be a good thing for the state in Arizona in which it could “benefit some workers and unemployment people.” ( Hansen 2010) Being in the economic crisis our nation is in, SB 1070 would help those that are unemployed find jobs particularly in Arizona. This could also mean that workers and demand a higher pay since they are working legally and pay doesn’t have to be given “under the table.”With the bill the revenue spend on immigrants would decrease, helping the economic state of Arizona on respect to that matter. Although this bill could create tons of jobs for the Americans in Arizona, it could also effect the economic status of that state negatively.
Reason for my rejection to approve the bill as a law. With SB1070 it is said that “businesses could grow more slowly because of higher labor costs and lighter demand, and consumers could face higher prices for some goods and services.”(Hansen 2010) Also, Arizona’s population consists of a large amount of immigrants that the state needs to improve its economic satiability. Hotels and large corporations are being effected by the boycotts against the bill, they state that the boycotts are hurting their business. Not only will this law hurt the economic wellbeing of Arizona but studies by the Perryman group analyzed that the U.S. economy would shrink by 245billion without illegal immigrants and lose 2.8 million jobs. Both arguments to the bill impact the economy and as well an American him/her self. So I question do we really want to get rid of our immigrants.

Senate Bill 1070 (SB1070) is a law which was introduced in Arizona early this year and has now been signed by Governor Jan Brewer in the month of April to take effect on July 29 2010. This law has been very controversial all throughout the nation. Hundreds of protests have occurred because of this. “Mejia, who helped organize a protest in front of the state capitol Friday, is one of many student activists in Arizona organizing against SB 1070”(Grinberg 2010). Like Mejia I am against SB1070. Besides the issue of racial profiling which I am very concerned about, think about the amount of money that would be needed to train all these Arizona police officers too be taught how to make good choices on “reasonable suspicion” of someone being illegal is a huge problem. “The Republican governor…issued an executive order that requires additional training for local officers on how to implement the law without engaging in racial profiling or discrimination(CNN wire staff 2010). This extra training will be very costly, imagine how many hundreds of police officers are working in the state of Arizona. Is the state able to afford these costs? “’This training will include what does and does not constitute reasonable suspicion that a person is not legally present in the United States,’ Brewer said after signing the bill” (CNN wire staff 2010). According to this bill’ police officers can use “in tandems, vehicles that are overcrowded, dressed a certain way, and difficulty speaking English” (CNN video 2010) as elements of suspicion for illegal people. This to me is ridiculous, it’s a typical stereotype that Latinos or Mexicans tend to travel in overcrowded vehicles, and therefore I think this law is aimed towards the illegal immigrants from Mexico.
A reason I would give credit to SB1070 would be that it can dilute the crime rate from illegal residents and drug trafficking from the Mexican border. Yet I don’t see how this can help other states like South Carolina and Minnesota. “South Carolina and Minnesota introduced copy-cat versions of AZ's SB 1070 with 8 other states set to follow suit”(Wahab 2010). Is immigration really an issue in those states? I don’t see it, that is why I don’ agree with this bill.

Senate Bill 1070 (SB1070) is a law which was introduced in Arizona early this year and has now been signed by Governor Jan Brewer in the month of April to take effect on July 29 2010. This law has been very controversial all throughout the nation. Hundreds of protests have occurred because of this. “Mejia, who helped organize a protest in front of the state capitol Friday, is one of many student activists in Arizona organizing against SB 1070”(Grinberg 2010). Like Mejia I am against SB1070. Besides the issue of racial profiling which I am very concerned about, think about the amount of money that would be needed to train all these Arizona police officers too be taught how to make good choices on “reasonable suspicion” of someone being illegal is a huge problem. “The Republican governor…issued an executive order that requires additional training for local officers on how to implement the law without engaging in racial profiling or discrimination(CNN wire staff 2010). This extra training will be very costly, imagine how many hundreds of police officers are working in the state of Arizona. Is the state able to afford these costs? “’This training will include what does and does not constitute reasonable suspicion that a person is not legally present in the United States,’ Brewer said after signing the bill” (CNN wire staff 2010). According to this bill’ police officers can use “in tandems, vehicles that are overcrowded, dressed a certain way, and difficulty speaking English” (CNN video 2010) as elements of suspicion for illegal people. -Senate Bill 1070 has caused controversy, disagreement,and protest among not only people in Arizona, but also people in the entire nation. However, some of the criticism may be caused by exaggerated skepticism, ignorance, and misinterpreted understanding. One major misunderstanding based on the senate bill is that the bill is allowing racial profiling and random accusation of innocent citizens of illegal immigration. According to section B of Article 8 of senate bill 1070, law enforcers can only request proof of legal right to be in this country after a "probable cause" or "lawful contact", meaning they can only do it after a person has committed a misdemeanor or crime really. Some people are also under the idea that law enforcers are given the opportunity to get away with racial profiling when suspecting only certain people of being illegal immigrants. First of all, racial profiling is illegal as demonstrated and explained in the fourth amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which says people should be protected from unreasonable search and being taken without probable cause, as well as the fourteenth amendment of the U.S. Constitution which says all U.S. citizens should be treated equally. Secondly, when speaking of reasonable suspicion of someone being an illegal immigrant, the state isn't referring to taking race, age, and other things like that into consideration but rather to consider things like not having a driver's license or something.
-If senate bill 1070 is taken into effect, there will be benefits to Arizona socially and economically if not now, then later. I agree with an article from www.azcentral.com that businesses dependent on illegal immigrants as laborers and customers may suffer, but I also agree that the bill can provide higher wages to citizens and allow more legal residents to get jobs (Will SB 1070 Help or Hurt Economy?, Ronald J. Hansen). If more U.S. citizens are able to get jobs then the unemployment rate can improve. Another thing that could be helped in Arizona is the drug cartel problem that's apparently spreading from Mexico into the U.S. According to an article from huffingtonpost.com, Mexican drug cartels are trying to be pushed into the U.S. and has increased kidnapping rates as well as shooting rates and what-not (Mexican Drug Cartels' Turf War May Be Spreading to Arizona, Randal C. Archibold). If the SB 1070 was taken into effect, Arizona can have a better shot at helping the economy as well as decreasing increased crime activities. I support the bill for the most part because although it comes with social consequences like protesting as well as economic consequences like business problems, it still has potential to stop rising crime rates in Arizona and help with illegal immigration problems.

The concept of Immigration is not a new topic; however it has attracted an enormous amount of attention in the media and government. This spotlight is due to the passing of Senate Bill 1070 in Arizona, and its specifications. Because immigration tends to be an emotional topic, there are generally two highly diverted positions, illustrating whether you are for or against the proposed bill. So being a student with not much political influence, I have to address this bill in a manner that concerns my lifestyle views, and possibly my family views to evaluate my opinion. When evaluating the issue, I would have to say that I oppose the bill considering its vague regulations (which may ultimately lead to racial profiling) and the seemingly unsound success it will have, considering its possible economic downfall.
Being passed through the government thus far proves SB 1070 to have liable reasons to create such a bill and expectations that will be followed. The main defense that individuals state for passing the bill is that it will reduce the crime rate in this state. This is a greatly attractive benefit from the bill. Some may even argue that illegal immigrants should not be allowed because of their lack of paying taxes. This is because when economic and social status decreases, “there is a greater burden placed on the federal taxpayer because of welfare and related assistance programs provided for the jobless and illegal aliens” (Martin, 2010). It will also allow for an improved environment. So because “people want the federal government to do their job” by allowing better security of aliens Brewer believes that “if [the government] won’t do it, then the states will do it” (Stone, 2010). By having the states take a part they believe the job will precede with much more ease than with the Federal Government. In addition, Brewer had also mentioned the fact that an illegal individual is a crime and not a race, and actions should be made. Taking this into account, Governor Jan Brewer insisted in her press conference that the state has been debating immigration with the federal government for a sufficient amount of time for them to comply; however the federal government has not done anything to help the security of the boarder and immigration issues. Being said, Governor Brewer stands tall in her defense on passing the SB 1070, because of the explained reasons.
Even so, there is an alternate side of this bill that does not look so highly on SB 1070. The main issue concerning this bill is its relation to racial profiling, which scares and infuriates many. Many illegal immigrants come to places like Arizona and California because “People desire to migrate because of freedom” (Tapia, 2010) they should not be punished for their desire. Many see the issue as not concerning, considering their causes; to move and reach lands with more opportunities and rights of not having to show identification under certain circumstances. Another reason for the ridding of SB 1070 is the fact that this would wipe out a large population, including Latinos. There has already been accounts for decreasing populations and found that “Latinos…are highly flexible, highly exploitable work force, a buffer to economic downturns…[and many industries] are massively dependent on undocumented workers” (Haq, 2010). With the decreasing work force Arizona is bound to go into an economic downfall. This be seen especially in tourist companies such as the Arizona Inn in Tuscan, who stated that “12 customers canceled reservations or said that they would not return to the state because of the law” (Archibold, 2010). This would also cause Arizona to go into an economic collapse. SB 1070 causes for unconstitutional violations and altercation in Arizona’s economy.
As a result, while one might presume that the SB 1070 aids Arizona’s criminal data, it in fact may cause more damage than may have hoped for. So by allowing immigrants more opportunities and less racial discrimination, the SB 1070 would serve better uncertified.

I am completely against the SB 1070. All this law does is encourage racial profiling and the abuse of civil liberties. Police officers are required to determine if a person is illegally based on "reasonable suspicion". This is an easy way for police to determine by race or color. The state is mostly likely gonna be having plentiful of lawsuits concerning the matter of racial profiling. Another reason why this law isn't right because it will only hurt the states economy. If all illegal immigrants were to be taken back to their home place, it will only cost the Arizona $26.4 billion in economic activity, $11.7 billion in gross state product, and around 140,324 jobs. It will most likely cause a rise a foreclosures and vacancies, only increasing the downfall of the housing market. As more and more boycotts are occuring, buisnesses are expected to loose customers, money, and in the end, come crashing down.
The SB 1070 is an issue that should be left to the Federal Gov't. The Federal Gov't already have laws concerning immigration. There is no need for the state to input any other. With this law, they would be violating the Supremacy Clause, which states that rights that belong to the Fed. Gov't do not belong to the states and vise-verse. Immigration is a Fed. issue not state. This law not only violates the Supremacy Clause, but the Equal Protection Clause as well. Mostly due to the fact that the bill creates two classes of people and treats them unequally. In state law, there are "Primary" and "Secondary" violations. Primary violations are those in which a cop may pull you over, while "Secondary"violations are those in which they can't. With the SB 1070, it allows a person to be pulled over for secondary violations, if there is suspicion that they are an illegal alien.
